ever since 9th grade him and his friend (also non-white) have been fascinated with Nazism. They used to find it funny when Hitler would march and salute and whenever we hung out they would just salute and have a laugh. They would draw humourous comics of Hitler travelling to places like Asia and India (were pretty funny). I think they just thought the whole nazism culture was funny but their knowledge on it was quite vast. I remember at world history class he would score 100 on tests when the Nazism unit was being taught. There was one moment in our lives where he confronted a real nazi skinhead and accused him of not truly understanding the history of nazism and hitler's intention and he actually outsmarted the skinhead, even he was suprised. He has Jewish friends they know about his humor but they don't care I think ultimately he likes to learn about Nazism but he doesn't believe in its ideals. Is this normal? Do others joke about nazis like him?

Mel Brooks is Jewish. I believe he served in the military back during WWII. He has a vast knowledge of the Nazis and much of his early humor was targeted at Hitler and the Nazism. Watch his early movies, like The Producers, Blazing Saddles, To Be or Not To Be (very intense movie), or even SpaceBalls. It's not so much a "fascination" as much as it is residual anger and rage and wanting to push back against an institution that is inherently evil.

Ever hear the phrase "knowledge is power"? In order to mount an effective defense, you need to have a thorough understanding of the enemy.

I think it is normal... i like to learn about nazism but i am not for it. I saw on the history channel the other day that hitler got a shot every morning and it was like drugs or something that could have influenced his decisions. He was very sickly. I am fascinated how one man can influence so many people to kill so many people. Because hitler never physically killed anyone but himself.

Many children and adults are confused, and TV and movies have very purposely added to the false perceptions of this remarkable era.

I was there during that period and my family was an integral part of the NSDPA,which you like to call Nazis(Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei) and I have never seen anything at any time in any movie or on TV or written in most all current day books in the US that were even remotely close to the real history of this period.

Essentially, you, your friend and the skinhead are all very much in the dark where this matter is concerned and apparently will continue to remain so.

Is it normal? I don't think so.

This is something you should report to a teacher or guidence counselor. It sounds like Columbine waiting to happen again.
