For the same reason we need some level of "unemployment". Imagine if everyone was guaranteed work: think of the people who would not be motivated to do anything, no doubt you could think of some co-workers you've had.
In other words, we humans need the threat of losing our jobs if we don't perform up to certain standards. And the only reason we work is to buy or pay for things that either we don't want to or cannot produce on our own.

Because we don't all do the same type of work. Some DON'T work. They just sit around waiting for the gov't to take care of them. I've worked my way up in a Fortune 100 company over the past 5 yrs. Do you think a recent college grad in their first job should be making as much as I do?

Because some people work harder or have stronger skills than others. This is not a communist state.
Those that work hard, have the opportunity to do better than someone else who does a menial job.

If you have 10 people locked in a room, and they all have a million dollars.... are any of them really rich ?
If everyone on earth had a million dollars, a gallon of milk would cost a million dollars. The value of all currency would be so little, that everyone would end up relying on trade as a form of currency. The world would be thrust into the dark ages economically in this scenario..
