You know the song, Carol of the Bells. I saw Mormon Tabernacle Choir playing that song and wondered why the bell ringers wore gloves?

It's because the sweat off your hands has acids in it that tarnish and eat away at the brass of the bells. In order to keep them shiny and sounding good, one must wear gloves at all times when handling them.
