I know I often tend to look back on the year at this time of year...but there is a part of me that feels it might be more sensible to look forward. Any thoughts?

As the end of the year approaches, it is only natural to reflect on what has happened since the year began and access your accomplishments during that time period. You rethink everything you've done during this time. This is fine because it helps you learn from your mistakes and congratualte yourself on your achievements. We often do this because we somethimes view the end of the year as a big deadline, or the end of something. So of course, you'll think about what you've done and what has happened. But it is also very important to also view the end of this year as the beginning to a new one. After all, all endings, are just beginnings in disguise. So use what you've learned from the previous year to make this one even better. Good luck in 2008 and all years that follow!!!

Yes, I look back over the year and then look forward to the next. Having 4 children ranging from 8 - 23 all living at home there is always plenty going on. I think it is good to look back on the year - although achievements have been made there have been challenges and setbacks to overcome too. I look forward to 2008 when hopefully new exciting opportunities may develop. I think it is good to live in the present and not think too much about either the past or the future though. Wishing you all the best for 2008.

Yes always - and especially this year as it has been a particularly hard one.
However I always try to use that reflection in order to think about what I can do to make the next year a better one. That is why making (realistic!) New Year's resolutions can be a good idea.
I think that you need to reflect on the past in order to plan for the future - but you also have to live in the present!

"Time present and time past
Are both perhaps present in time future,
And time future contained in time past.
If all time is eternally present
All time is unredeemable.
What might have been is an abstraction
Remaining a perpetual possibility
Only in a world of speculation.
What might have been and what has been
Point to one end, which is always present.
Footfalls echo in the memory
Down the passage which we did not take
Towards the door we never opened
Into the rose-garden. "

Hello World,
I do reflect on the year now soon to be completed and really look at several personal moments and count and name the books I have read (seems I should be keeping some sort of list). But, moreso I look ahead and begin to plan for what I anticipate to be a "Great 2008". I am already covered with books through at least May (LOL!).

Have a great New Year "World" - best wishes for it to be successful as well.

Gerry :)

I do tend to look back, but only for a short time to reflect on what I liked, what went wrong and what I should do better next time. That automatically leads me into thinking forward.

And, looking back or forward, I am more than grateful for friends and especially you!

It is more sensible to look forward. Even though I have had a great year I am optimistic about this approaching one

i've got faith the comparable way. for the period of the summer and days off from college, (i be attentive to this sounds loopy) yet i like to awaken till now 7:30 or 8:00, in any different case, i've got faith like my day is wasted. i do no longer decide to basically sit down around or sleep all day because of the fact then i've got faith like I had a crappy day. So, yeah, i'm getting what you're announcing. :-D

No, I always attempt to be thoughtful and reflective. I do not see reason why I should reserve such feelings and actions for one part of the year only.

I'm with Cookie Boy. I don't think I could go an hour without a good reflective thought or two - about something...
