I had a run in with a tiger so this episode in the news has really freaked me out. Me and my family were looking through the cage at the tigers at Whipsnade and they went mad trying to get at my son (he was a toddler) - there was a baby elephant calling in distress at the time just round the corner and it seemed to get them all riled up and they were standing up at the fence and pacing. There were about 4/5 of themand whichever way my son went they followed, made me wonder what we could do if they ever got out - how could you ever outrun one - I will really think twice about zoos now.
Also my dad went to a zoo in singapore once and that night on the news he saw the bridge he had been standing on and the story was of a crocodile that had escaped and made it onto the bridge - a lucky escape.

My wife used to work at the Wild Animal Park (San Diego)..she was an elephant keeper. I went into the barn with her and an elephant threw a bucket at my head. Luckily they have a system set up that keeps the keepers from being in the actual stall with the big game animals. This is because years ago, an Asian elephant sat back on a keeper, crushing her to death. That was pretty sad.
