When naming my son I try to think through his lifespan when choosing a name for him.
As his mommy, I'll be saying his name sooooo many times.
As a boy on the playground and in the classroom how will the other kids treat him? Can he pronounce and spell it himself?
Will he die of embarrassment when the teacher calls out his given name and all the kids know him by a nick-name?
How will the other teen guys hassle him?
As a man, walking into his office, how will his name plaque read? Will his name be distinct, distinguished, respected? Or will people take his name as a joke? If his name does not fit him as he grows into adulthood, he'll be one of those fellows who simply goes by his initials. (like J.P. Morgan)
I named my son Greg. Our other choices were Matthew or Nathan, Paul.
