*Note that n will be used in the place where a number is unknown.* Seven less than twice a number: 2n - 7 twice a number means that you basically say a number twice. How do you do that? Multiply it by 2. Then subtract the seven. Three times four plus six: (3 x 4) + 6 I'm guessing the 3 and four go together. They way it's worded is awkward, and I'm not quite sure if it's what I wrote or 3(4 + 6). Three more than five times a number: 3 + 5n Three more means plus 3. Five times a number means you say it five times, so you multiply it by five. Just try breaking it down, and think of what the key words mean.
