I suggest that jealousy is a natural emotion, but it is one that can also mask insecure feelings.

I stipulate that a little jealousy is healthy in a relationship, but going too far can ruin the love. Also, no one should try to make another jealous. Those are the games of an insecure and/or controlling person. Not nice nor mature.

Jealousy is an emotion, like anger. It just is. What you DO about it, is the important part.
Use it to examine yourself, or use it to project your fears and insecurity on others. You get to choose.
I think jealousy is a failure to appreciate yourself, your gifts and your blessings.
We all do it, but the antidote is to stop and examine your strengths and weaknesses and see that whomever you are jealous of has some, too.

I think it is a basic survival instinct that the human race depended upon. It's designed to keep a bond of two or more people together in order to propogate children and advance social development--such as work, education, settlement, etc. Without it, I think that bonding probably wouldn't hold and there would be no particular group to take care of children. Maybe a maternal-child bond could protect and nurture--which often, nowadays, does happen. But it takes a strong social network to protect women and children from abuses, neglect and being killed.
