I don't really believe that there is a difference, in the context that the women who is cheating is missing an emotional connection with her husband then she could just find a really close friend who gives her what she needs emotionally - but to the extent that you physically have intercourse with another person that is a whole other thing. Especially if it's like " Oh I went to vegas got drunk and did some guy". Was that an emotional cheat? If a women has an affair with another guy for a long time then that's a whole different thing and a guy can have this apply as well. Basically differs person to person not gender to gender.

Yes and No:

Men cheat because they are not satisfied. Women cheat because they are not satisfied.

The differences:

Men crave variety in sex and love making. A man can have sex with another woman without having feelings for her. Women cannot comprehend this for some reason. Men need to prove they still "got it" and also get tired of the same partner over time.

Women need GOOD sex and when they don't get it.. they look for it else where. Women like the danger and excitement of a secret affair. The risk of getting caught and doing the forbidden gives them a sense of excitement and makes them feel alive. Also, women need the reassurance of knowing they can replace their man if they ever had to.

In General this is true. Of course not in 100% of cases.

Men and women cheat for a large number of reasons, on the surface, but what it boils down to, if you can get past all of that is that they are trying to get what they're not getting at home, whether that's a specific kind of sexual activity, love, a reason of being, or whatever it may be.

If you want to cheat on your mate, you should identify what you are missing in your own relationship and share that with him/her. If he/she doesn't care about your feelings, you might be with the wrong partner.

Biologically speaking, yes. Men get more upset over sexual infidelity as if a women is unfaithful, he cannot be sure if a baby is his or not (without doing paternity testing). Women get more upset over emotional infidelity as she "needs" resources to raise her children, and a man's resources typically follow his emotions.

Kappakappa has the answer in simplified form, the ultimate answer that is. Remember, what we do in everyday, proximate, situations is the trigger of our ultimate evolved behavior. Something not well understood by your typical WGS ideologue.

I recall reading a feminist study which claimed men cheated because they liked their ego stroking... while women cheat because... well, because men aren't paying enough attention and they're 'forced' to cheat.

Riiiight.

I'm tempted to believe that both do it for deep biological reasons, but in our culture-laden societies there are all kinds of reasons for both sexes: pure sex, adventure, fear of loneliness and rejection.... How much of this is attributable to our biology I can't exactly say.
