When you get to level 14 or so you can start doing instances. Instances are places separate from the world (you go through a portal) and they require a group of 5 players. Some higher level ones can require 25 or 40 players. If your alliance your first instace will be Deadmines in Westfall, players will call it VC after the last boss you have to kill. Look for players saying "LFG VC" or "LFM VC", looking for group or looking for more. If your horde your first one will be wailing caverns in Barrons. Instances will give you better gear than you can get anywhere else.

After level 10 (11?) you can start doing battlegrounds. Battlegrounds are player vs. player combat. You will be put into a group automatically. To enter a battleground talk to the battlemaster in a major city. You will receive honor points that you can use towards PvP gear. PvP gear will make you better at killing other players.

Of course there is world PvP. I hope you rolled on a PvP server because it's the most fun. When you get into contested territories, watch out because enimy players can attack you, and you them.

There is also arena teams. You can be in a 2v2, 3v3 or 5v5 arena team. You will recieve arena points that can be spent on the best PvP epics.

You have the option of 2 main professions. I highly recommend skinning/mining or skinning/herbalism. Other professions are money drains and should be saved for a higher level. Example, get two gathering professions now and drop one for a crafting profession at level 40.

It is very important to learn how to use the auction house to sell stuff to other players. Especially the stuff you collect from gathering professions. Look into addons from curse.com to make your gameplay a little easier. Auctioneer addon is a must, it will save you time and make you money. Note that all items thats name is not grey can be used by and sold to other players. Other addons I recommend are: CT_MailMod, Omen threat meter (for groups), there is one that auto sells all grey items (name is grey, junk) to vendors, I forgot the name.

The game is really not meant for solo play. If you plan on playing alone, then yes, quests, and the experience of being in the Warcraft universe is the game. Once you get to a high enough level there are instanced dungeons where you can group with other players to defeat bosses for greater loot.

To fully experience the game you will need a good guild. Check the official WOW boards for the Realm you chose to play on for any guilds that are recruiting. This will allow you to experience (when you get there of course) the end-game contact and the larger 25-40 player instances. Good guilds and people is what makes this game fun.

However, be advised that like all MMO's, wow is a timesink. All you do is kill mobs to get phat lewtz so you can go kill even bigger mobs and get even better purpz (purple quality epic items) so you can go kill even bigger mobs.

If you're not interested in joining a guild or devoting several hours to a successful 25-man raid to get a chance to get a peice of plate armor to complete your Paladin's healing set so you can be the 4th healer in a raid on Mag's lair or you'll be booted out of the guild, then WoW is not for you.

There is SOOOOO much more. There are quests where you have to kill a certain number of beasts/ogres/anything else, or you have to get the boss which ussually has a name. There are also instances or dungeons which you go in with a party (ussually 5 unless it's a raid). Also there are battlegrounds where you fight players of the opposing faction (horde vs alliance) in order to get a certain objective done. Truthfully WoW has a LOT of things to do and blizzard is always adding more. Just play a little further, you'll enjoy it.

to tell you the truth it is usually about killing x amount of this thing and reporting that quest or going and getting this item and bringing it back or getting this many of this item and reporting back and after you are done reporting to this person report to the next town...it happens like this the whole game however it is still alot of fun, things do change later on though like the difficulty and joining groups becomes a must, give it some time it will grow on you when you reach about lvl 16

Theres alot of other stuff! Professions, Instances, Raiding, PvP, Item Farming, Exploring. WoW is a entire world, go to a main city first. It will give you a good start! Good Luck!

You do quests to gain levels. When you get higher in levels, more things become available to you (more quests, dungeons, professions, talent points, better gear, PvP battles, mounts, etc.). But essentially, you get experience points to make you level by doing quests and killing mobs.
