Cooking oil and heat
coat pans with oil, place on a cooking sheet then place in oven on 200 for 2 hours.
Never wash in soapy water and re-season (oil) once every three months for the first year if you use them a lot. After the first year do it once a year.

The previous posts are all correct. You could also just start by cooking something with very high fat content. Fried Chicken works great. You could cook a breakfast in your pan with bacon or sausage and eggs. Of course make sure you do the greasy things first! Definitely don't "wash" it as said above, you literally can just wipe out the pan with a paper towel, but you will have to scrape off anything stuck on. Make sure you cook some high fat things in your cast iron several times, so it gets good and seasoned.

The best way I have found to season a cast iron pan is to use real butter or a light veg oil. heat the pan when you season it and after you have it seasoned never never never wash it with soap.

Rub the pan down with vegetable oil between each use and never use soap on the pan. (just a wet, course sponge)
