complete control of the House of Representatives, the Senate, and the White House for 8 years? And how will this failure effect the voting of those opposed to abortion this time around?

There are two reasons. They know the majority of the citizens wouldn't stand for it, and maybe more importantly, if they did it they wouldn't be able to use it as a major part of their campaign platform any more. They like to keep it as an issue because they don't have anything truly substantial to offer.

It's the Supreme Court that could overturn Roe v. Wade, not the House of Representatives. And while the court leans slightly to the right at the moment, the justices also usually defer to precedent.

And many measures that were put forward (like the one in South Dakota) were too extreme to appeal to most conservatives or even most pro-lifers-- the law in South Dakota, for example, made no provisions or exceptions for danger to the life of the mother, rape or incest.

The administration didn't accomplish anything much less anything with abortion. Our country has much greater problems than the abortion issue. The abortion and Gay Marriage issue are buzz word items that get the religious rights panties in a wad. The republican party doesn't want to win that battle because once it's won the money and support stop flowing for that issue. As long as they are "fighting" for it the dollars and support keep coming. It's all about money on both sides

Rowe Vs Wade was decided by the Supreme Court in about 1972 which made the killing of the unborn legal.
President Bush has made tremendous progress on getting conservative Pro Life Supreme Court justices. That is the only way the Supreme Court can be overturned. It cant be overturned by the Legislative or Executive branches of the Government, only by the Supreme Court.
Believe me, I hate to see the slow progress as well, in overturning this ruling, as millions have lost their lives in the process. The person who stated that America is Pro Death is not accurate. Most people value the dignity of Life.

The Supreme Court holds that abortion is a woman's constitutional right, therefore a constitutional amendment would be required to change the law. That means 38 state legislatures must also approve it, and the President has no voice in the matter. The constitution was written so that no single political party can have total power.

Because our government , in general , is full of hypocrites and candy coated policies. Ron Paul is the only good republican out there right now. Ron Paul used to be a doctor. He had to perform abortions at one time. Don't act all high and mighty (pro choicers) till you've walked in the shoes of someone who had to perform abortions. His stories are nothing but gripping truths that need to be heard. Vote Ron Paul for president. Thanks

It is not up to them. The Supreme Court will have to reverse it's decision on Roe v Wade. It would then be up to the individual states to have their own legislation addressing abortion. As it should be.

The majority of Americans do not wish for abortion to be totally abolished, and Republicans are afraid of the backlash, and rightfully so.

Because they knew that would alienate half of the population and render them unelectable.

Abortion should be legal, safe, and a rare. How about the Bush Administration getting over their ridiculous abstinence only policies.

And besides, the rights of privacy and what goes on between a woman and her doctor should NEVER be the domain of a legislative body.
