the car heater works on the cooling system. the cooling fluid is water it is pumped around the engine through passageways and picks up heat as it goes. when the engine gets hot enough there is a thermostat that has wax inside of it that expands and open up the thermostat then the water flows into the radiator through an upper radiator hose ( the radiator is the big silver thing at the front of your car) and here it loses heat through air flowing through the radiator or the parts in the radiator then the water goes pump to the engine through another hose called a radiator hose then this process repeats.

now the heating system there is another part called a heater core it is similar to the radiator when you turn the heater switch on it opens up a vale and allows water to flow through here the heat is put into your car through vents

ac is the same thing except there is a fan that turns on to blow the air out so it can pick up heat as it expands from low prssure to high pressure
