some of my reasons are:
-to be able to help someone if I can
-to learn from other people about their opinions on the same question
-to pass the time and enjoy doing so
-but lately I think I'm just doing this for the points. Starting to be tempted to answer questions, even stupid questions, even giving stupid answers just to get another 2 points. I'm starting to hate the point system.
(Some of the questions here are really very private and sensitive and we should be careful on what we advice some of the people who have serious problems.)

also bc i got tired of playing online games at work, and not all of the ones i want to play work anymore
plus it gives me an arena to be witty (translate: smart*ssed!!) more than normal

I like the mental stimulation and I don't mind helping people. Most of the questions here are not really about people that need help, at least not in the Society and Culture categories, but they have a lot to do with how various aspects of Society and Culture should be.

I agree with you is just what you answer, because the problems are sometimes particularly difficult and dangerous and our responses may have consequences.
However I do not have the answer to two points, because even I do not know what good these points.
