it all depends how tall is she? my daughter was 18 lbs at 7 month but she was also as tall as a 12 month old baby.. weight depends on many factors. when the doctor charted her where was her ranking?.. it just all depends.

It all depends on how much she weighted when she was born, how much she's gaining and how fast. The doctor use a growth curve chart to chart babies weight gain and height and they should be able to tell your sister if her baby is too heavy or not. She's probably just in the very top percentile. My daughter just turned 8 months and she only weighs MAYBE 16 lbs but she's really small, she's only int he 5th percentile for her age.

They dont really say whats too big for a baby when they are under a year old. My god daughter is a year old though and she weighs 23 lbs...sounds like your niece might be a chubby baby but I dont think its anything to worry about as of right now. Her doctor would say something if they were concerned.

My son was 20lbs at 4 months so that sounds pretty normal to me. But my son was breastfed and breastfed babies tend to gain faster the first 6 months.
Here is the formula fed baby growth chart:

Ultimately though you should be discussing this with your sister if you are concerned.

It all depends on birth weight & how much she's grown per month.
My son is almost a year old & he's over 30 pounds. At 7 months he was over 20 pounds. Our doctor is fine with his weight because it corresponds properly to his height.
You're a concerned aunt & that's good, but as long as your sister is taking her daughter to the doctors and they aren't concerned... don't worry about it. The time to get concerned about over-weight babies is after age 2.
To ease your mind, find out her height and then use this chart:
