car jumps out of first gear if i hold it in place will drive but jumps out when i let go.

go on tell me it is going to cost the earth lol

could be thrust bearing pressure plate or even simple the linkage arm under the car that is bent.
or the full box
would of helped if you said which model you was on about

It sounds like a simple gear shift adjustment if somebody recently changed the clutch and didn't re-fit correctly this often happens but and there is always a but if there is a breakage in the gear box it will be cheaper to buy a reconditioned one

If you pull away gently it should be ok,if you pull away quickly
it will jump out of gear.Either put up with it or get a recon
gearbox from a scrap yard.Your gearbox is quite well worn
and this is why its jumping out of 1st gear.

Take the 1st gear linkage of the lever, move the lever into 1st and the stick into 1st, Adjust the lever so it falls right into the lever. Try it. If that doesn't do it the you probably bent something inside the box.

its not gona be cheap

just hold it in first , its not there for long is it ?

depends how old the car is and wether its worth spending the money on for the sake of a little inconvenience.

i had an old mini years ago that did it for for 2 years !
