I am 29 weeks pregnant, and I have an appointment today where I have to drink that nasty glucose stuff, but also they are checking for some other things. I was in the hospital last Tuesday night with strong braxton hick and they have continued to the point where they are starting to hurt, I was having anywhere from 2-4 an hour all day yesterday, they told me not to go to the hospital unless I had 5 an hour for 2 consecutive hours....does this seem normal for me to be feeling these so strongly yet? Also my entire vaginal area feels like a giant bruise, it hurts to get up, sit down, lay down, anything and everything, what could this be? They said they are checking me for dialation today, isn't it to early? I just dont understand, 2 weeks ago I felt great, why is this happening now? Do you think my baby will be premature?

All of your answers so far are really great, thank you. Also to throw in another question, I have extreme swelling in the past few days, I can't even wear my shoes anymore, i have to wear slippers, is this typical. I really hope I am wrong but I keep having dreams that she will be here before the end of January....I just want her to be well!

I think you need to take it very easy and try to not stress out You already suspect that your baby may come early, so do get mentally prepared as well.

I think you could be in pre-labour and they are obviously a little concerned if they are checking to see if you are dilating. They may admit you for bed-rest, so get someone to pack a bag today just in case. They can do this until the baby comes. The Braxton Hicks contractions are telling you to stop over-doing it, even if you are not doing much at all.

Our 3rd baby arrived at 35wks and was in SCBU for 14 days instead of my being on bed-rest for two weeks. There was no time to get a steroid injection to help her lungs mature. Be prepared for them to want give you steroids just to be prudent, its better for your baby if you allow this.

Whatever you do today, make sure that you listen to what you are being told. Ask and keep asking for clarification if you are not sure what they mean. If they send you home, make sure you follow their advice. Be ready to go back in asap if you get any more uncomfortable. I would. Don't stay at home in pain, its not worth the risk to either of you.

Good luck honey.

Oh yeah, those are normal. Not for everybody, but you seem to be the "lucky" person here. Try using a body pillow when you are lieing down....also, stay on your side and keep your bottom leg stretched out with your top leg somewhat bent, this well help in dealing with some of the pains and also help with gas if you have problems with that.

I remember when I was pregnant, my vaginal area hurt so bad I didn't want to go to the bathroom a lot of the time.

It could be a sign of you dialating, or something along those lines. Unless the doctors tell you to worry though, I wouldn't worry. Some of these tests are normal even if they don't think it's anything bad. They just want to cover bases so they don't make a mistake. Just speak your concerns to your doctor when you go to your appointment...if they don't give you a satisfactory answer, call your GYN doc. He'll usually tell you what to do. If that doesn't help after awhile, it is better to be safe than sorry, go ahead and go to the hospital. You'd be surprised how many pregnant women go into the hospital over some of the silliest things (I did), they are used to it and won't think anything of it when you show up.

I had my daughter only a day early..weighing in a 3 lbs. 15 ounces....other than small size she was perfectly healthy and alert....and if I remember correctly, you can have your child up to a month early, as long as there weren't any horrid complications through the rest of your pregnancy, and the baby turn out just fine. They try to keep it from happening, but usually it's ok.

As long as you do EVERYTHING the doctor tells you to do, you should be fine. Congrats on the baby! And get as much sleep as you possibly can now. :P

Braxton hicks are normal. I had painful ones from 4 months on. So much so that I would be exhausted from them, and sore. They must stop when you lay down and rest with a glass of water, and you cant have more than 5-6 in an hour because that can be a sign of preterm labor.

Theyre just ruling out any troubles, dilation would be a sign that its more that routine braxton hicks, anytime you go in with contractions they check you. Iam surprised they didnt check you in the hospital.

You have increased blood flow, and the weight of the baby and uterus on that vaginal area, its normal for it to feel like a big bruise. You can also get vaginal hemmeroids, these are normal in pregnancy and cause sharp pains, or aches.

Honestly, to me you sound normal. Thats what I felt like my whole pregnancy, and I didnt deliver until about 2 days before my due date.

I know you are scared and worried about your baby, but you can be assured that today's technology is very, very advanced and should the baby arrive early, the hospital, doctors, and nurses, are all very well prepared to care for your baby. Your doctor is also able to give you something to stop the labor (if this is what is happening) and may tell you to stay in bed for the rest of your pregnancy. Also, you may be monitered a whole lot more closely and have more frequent Dr. appointments. They will take very good care of you and your baby. I said a prayer for you and the baby and I know that all will be okay even if the baby should come early. Warm hugs and God bless!

I had braxton hicks very frequently as well. It is very normal to have them. You only have to worry if they come at closer times like every 10 min for the same amount of time.... if you get to every 5 min then I would see the doc asap, but braxton hicks are VERY normal. As for the vaginal pain, depending on your sexual life with your partner, you may want to ask your doc about that one. Good luck... Dont worry so much, it will be ok!!:D Congradulations and Good Luck!!

You know what...my son was 5wks early. At least that is what the ultrasound showed. His lungs were developed when my water broke. So we cant really say if he was premature or if he was just a small baby. He was 5 lbs 13 oz. So it could be that the baby is just small but ready to come out. And if he/she is then they can check the amnio fluid to see if the lungs are developed enough. so just try to think positive and go with the flow with wahtever happens. I was lucky enough to not have him go to the NICU...I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Congrats onthe baby!
