Social Security has already failed. The politicians just haven't had the courage to admit it yet.

I'm nearly 40 and I don't believe I'll ever see any of it.

Sweetie,I am almost 40 and on my quarterly social Security statement it tells me quite plainly my estimated benefits as published quarterly may be reduced by the time time I retire at 70. (yes- in order to receive the maximum benefit of my payments into the system I will have to work until 70)

Not unless there are some serious changes made to the system... it will collapse before the young adults paying into it now are able to benefit from it themselves. Privatization is about the only viable chance it has to stay in place for future generations to gain from it.

The way I like to think of SS is that the benefits my parents have been receiving for the last 25 years have been coming right out of my paycheck. It makes it easier to think I am paying them.
