Are we ever going to live/colonize in space? Or will that always be a fantasy?

Definetely. Just look at me, I live on Mars, just kidding.

I believe that Humans are still in the cradle. Humans have the desire to explore and exploit.

First off, the Human population is growing way out of control on Earth. From what I heard on Sky news, it would take 3 "Earths" to fully sustain the way we are heading. Nuclear war is another possibility which could eradicate civilization. If Man can live elsewhere, the risks of Humans being extinct are almost nill. Our technology, in my opinion, is being wasted on useless things. The governments spend billions of pounds/dollars/yen/euros on military equipment. Why not use it to push progress on interstellar colonization?

However, the downside to living in Space is that we haven't even harnessed the ability to clean our planet. Oil spills, pollution, litter - everything is destroying the Earth. We should learn to clean it up before moving up to the next level.

@Richard R.: Yes, I also believe that oil is too dear to waste on Space. I watched a film known as "Crude Awakening" which informs watchers about how quickly oil is being wasted. I'm putting my 100% faith in Human ingenious abilities to find some sort of transport. We depend too much on oil and petroleum. Solar sail could provide a way?

We already are living in space. Our earth is situated in the space. I know you mean that living somewhere different- not here. I think it will happen but it will take a lot of time. We have to find a planet which is suitable for us ( which is not still found ) There are many experiments to do there before we live.It will take a long time that maybe we won't be living on that day.

Probably not. At this moment in history our species is utilizing its stores of petroleum with reckless abandon and trips to the moon are possible. In the near future that source of energy will become very dear and human society will have to adapt to lesser circumstances. There is no cheap substitute for gasoline. Space flight will slowly diminish, and dreams of interplanetary flight will remain dreams, no longer an expensive possibility. There is simply no place in the entire solar system worth the cost of visiting, and there is no place we can live without spending ruinously absurd quantities of money. Perhaps a technological breakthrough in fusion or some other unguessed source of power will permit us to continue our flirtation with space, but the Earth is our home and interstellar distances will probably keep us here forever.

NASA is already in the process of constructing a space station at the South pole of the moon in hopes to colonize it one day, so maybe. But we won't be living on the moon any time soon unfortunately.

Very near future. Orbital hotels (for the rich) are within the next 10 years if not sooner. And people already live on the international space station. The sky is -not- the limit.

Well, we've taken the first baby steps to do so; The space station has been permanently manned since 2000; Mir was occupied more often than not during it's lifetime.

If we don't move out into space, man is doomed to Earth's fate - so... I'm all for it.

Humans will either learn to live in space or become extinct. That is a fact because the Earth will not last forever.

i'm a Physics and Astronomy scholar and to me action picture star Trek is a fable/ shaggy dog tale. there are lots of extra demanding circumstances in actual existence area shuttle. human beings won't be able to reproduce in 0 gravity a good thank you to would desire to create a digital earth ecosystem in area stations by employing arising mega centrifuges. we can be waiting to stay in area in following couple of thousand years yet we can look very distinctive from what we are ideal now through results of 0 G on human physique. eg: loss of calcium from bone.
