Benazir Bhutto was a brave and fearless woman. She knew the people who opposed her were out to get her, but she cared deeply about democracy. She is definitely a modern day martyr

Sorry to disagree Plato ;o) but martyr my ar$e.She and her old man looted Pakistan hence the vast wealth as pointed out by openyoureyes. Her return was at the behest of that great manufacturer of puppet governments we all know and love/not.
$1.5 billion in assets.Looks like she's a martyr to greed all right.Just the sort of person the U.S. admin guys could do a deal with.

Benazir was not a martyr. A martyr dies for beliefs, convictions, things which are true and right. Bhutto was corrupt, a thief and a false leader. She was only getting what many thought she deserved. She knew the risks and she took them anyway.

She was living her own life in Dubai + London for the past 8 years with her family. She didn't need to go back to Pakistan. She had death threats but she went on and wanted to do something for her country, but they went and killed her. Yes she is a martyr.

None knows who is a martyr except for God at first place!

She was twice ousted on corruption charges and was on self-exile since 1998.

She sneeked her way in through a deal with Pakistan government, definitely with the favour of USA.

Moreover, it is too early to suggest who is behind her killing.

Whilst i sympathise with the death of benizir Bhutto.....i do not believe that she was a martyr in the true sense of the word, in the Oxford dictionary it states that martyrdom is to undergo death or suffering for a great cause. I dont beleive that she suffered for what she believed in. I also believe to be a true martre, you are willing to die for the cause.....i dont believe she wanted to or was willing to die for what she believed in.
Her death was plain old fashioned murder, not martredom.

Martyr? Well...I will just say she was a courageous and intelligent woman whose enemies finally got what they wished. This is a national tragedy for Pakistan. The government should have protected her more, and they'll see what their negligence has wrought in the future.

neither are martyrs, Bhutto was a fool to act as she did in the current environment, the killer was only that, a killer. While and assassin's action can cause a ripple in current events, the final outcome may not be well effected.

That is VERY tough to say. Because most modern day Pakistani's do not approve on Bhutto. Because she robbed them of countless amounts of funds during her tenure. I live in London which has a large Pakistani population and most of them were enraged that she was even allowed back into the country. She would've just been a USA controled puppy if she regained office

Well in my book on people anyone who stands up for the rights of people to vote and dies is a martyr. She is along with the other poor people who died today at both rallies killed by murderers at both rallies. Please don't forget there was a suicide attempt on the other ex prime minister of Pakistan today. Where people also died. They are all martyrs for rights of people to vote for who they want.
