Lewis and Clark were sent by the US government to go and explore in the Louisiana Purchase. They were the first Americans to document traveling in the great plains. They met and made friends of a number of the "native americans" they met along the way.

becuase lewis and clark discovere and travel in the luisiana purchase and there sacajawea help them to get in the paciic ocean but before getting to the pacific ocean the encaunter with the native americans.
