She was a threat to what essentially may as well be a dictatorship.

Lets not forger Benazir was very pro west, hence the reason alot is being made of her in western parts of the world such as The UK and US. She was no angel in her time when at the top and she seemed to be full of propaganda when trying to mount a challenge to regain power.

Its a sad event all in all.

No that is a bit extreme. I can only assume that it is purely on political grounds.

Benazir Bhutto was killed because she dared to oppose strong political men. I'm sure they hated the fact that a woman had so much influence and power, but she wasn't killed for being a woman.

Why would someone kill her because she was a woman, they also tried to kill the other ex prime minister today and he was not a woman. I don't think killers such as these care if they kill anyone at all. Men women and children have no rights under these people. They don't like the idea that people can vote for what they like.

A woman becoming the ¨President or Prime Minister of a country, specially an Islamic one, is something the religious puritans cannot understand or appreciate. That is why they resort to the Final Solution

This is terrible news! She is killed because of what she stands for and her political stand. not because of being a woman.

The politics in that region is so dramatic, its life or death every time. It is indeed a very tragic event and a very sad day for democracy or freedom lovers. I am very saddened!

what now for freedom of speech in Pakistan. I only heard the news about an hour ago and I am totally shocked. She frightened the government, IMO it was nothing more than a political assassination.

No, she was killed because those who opposed her and her party go to the extreme in opposition. That's the problem with so many of those countries, the philosophy is "agree with me or get killed".

Excuse me, I should have said "with so many in those countries... "

No she was killed because she was politician. Although women are classed and treated as second class citizens in the Islamic world.
