What do you think of this? In straw polls, people actually show up to vote, and dont just answer questions on the phone. It seems that Ron Paul is going to win this election!

I live in Iowa. I live in Ames, specifically.

I watched Mitt Romney spend $2 million to win the Iowa straw poll. All it takes is organization to win a straw poll. Not many people got to straw polls. And when a lot of people show up to straw polls, Ron Paul does poorly. I think the most votes he has received at any given straw poll was here in Iowa, where he finished 5th.

So, that's what I think of that. If it's a small event that not many people are going to, Ron Paul supporters can stack it. When it's a larger event, where regular people are going to it, he has zero chance. And we will see that precinct to precinct here in Iowa next week. There are quite a few Ron Paul supporters here in Ames. However, they can only go to their precinct's caucus. They can't hit 6 events in one night.

Just wait a week. I expect Paul to maybe get 4-6%. Maybe. He's polling at about 3%. My candidate, Ducan Hunter, is polling at 2%. But, going by Ron Paul logic, if Ron Paul is going to win, Duncan Hunter will be a very strong second!!

What Ron Paul supporters' main flaw is they believe their own hype. They see all the Ron Paul questions and rah-rah BS on Yahoo! Answers, and they think that is an accurate representation of the voters in general. Wrong, wrong, wrong.

Edit

Here's an interesting link from, get this, a Ron Paul supporter about Ron Paul's straw poll results.

What I would like to point you to is the number of votes. Don't look at the percentage, look at the number of votes. Most of those events do not have a lot of voters there. I was not only correct that Ron Paul received more votes at the Iowa straw poll than any other given straw poll, he has 55% of ALL of his straw poll votes from the Iowa straw poll.
If you look at the vote TOTAL, overall, Ron Paul ranks 4th, about 110 votes behind Sam Brownback, who dropped out of the race. He's about 350 votes above Tom Tancredo, who was viewed as a fringe candidate, and dropped out last week and endorsed Romney.

All of the other polls, other than the Iowa Straw Poll, and yes, it's the Iowa Straw Poll, not the Ames Straw Poll, have a total number of votes fewer than the number of votes that Tommy Thompson received AT the Iowa Straw Poll, which he decided to drop out of the race the day after the Iowa Straw Poll. In nearly 1/3 of those straw polls, Duncan Hunter's 174 Iowa Straw Poll votes is larger than the total number of votes of those 5 out of 16 polls, and would have been enough to win all but 4 of the listed straw polls. And I think that we can all agree that Duncan Hunter is not going to be the next president of the United States.

I think you should look really, really closely at the straw poll results and totals before you go touting how many straw polls Ron Paul has won.

I've received several phone polls and he was not an option. He's going to do better than people anticipate because his following is motivated and growing exponentially. I can't wait to see how he does.

Ron Paul will sure have a lot of straw to eat. Will he share? My horses will gladly accept.

And yet the Rasmussen report (a reputable political tracker) shows Ron Paul at 6%. Doesn't seem like he has mustered enough steam.

Mike Huckabee will be the next President. I've been saying for a long time that whomever the Christian Right gets behind will win the White House.

I read the article and I have to congratulate you on finding a truly unbiased source. I have to say that Nolan Chart has no bias towards Ron Paul whatsoever.

How many votes were actually cast?

The only reason he's not competitive in the media polls is because he's not included in most of them. I've received several phone polls and he was not an option. He's going to do better than people anticipate because his following is motivated and growing exponentially. I can't wait to see how he does.
