The reason being? The song? The idea that you might miss a special scene at the end?

I've sat through them for four reasons.

1) I like the song playing--but that usually doesn't keep my interest for long.
2) Waiting for additional scene at the end
3) Trying to figure out the name of an actor/actress
4) I have a few friends who are in showbusiness, so I wait to see their names. It's always exciting.

I never used to sit through them but now they often have outtakes after the credits, to make you sit and wait for more entertainment. People scramble to get out of the theatre to be first in the toilet queue or to be first to get out of the carpark. I then went to work in the film industry and went to the movies with my coworkers and one or some always knew some person whose name would be in the credits, so they would all sit and watch the credits so they could tell the person they saw their name. After I left that field of work, and went to the movies with boyfriends, I would want to sit and watch the credits because by this time I had met a few minor movie actors and crew and wanted to tell them I saw their names (and their work too, of course). But the boyfriends wouldn't have it. If I told them why I wanted to watch the credits, they would say I didn't know anyone connected with the movie and that I was just showing off. In some movie credits there are funny things inserted here and there, to keep you on your toes. I think the first outtakes I ever saw during or after movie credits were from the film BEING THERE. After that, it became common, especially for comedies. I get engrossed in a movie and when it finishes, I can't believe I have been sitting amongst a whole lot of people in a movie theatre. I am shocked that I am not actually on the set with all the actors! So I need a few minutes of credits to adjust to reality. If I have been watching a film set way back in the past or future I get a bit surprised when I get into the street afterwards to see that I am in a different time period.

Only if the studio went to some effort to make them interesting. I saw the horrible Rush Hour 3 the other day (God, they need to end that series) and they showed out-takes all through the credits. In a case like that it is worth hanging around. Otherwise, beat it. Oh yeah, the end of Drum Line too. They showed a two musical numbers during the credits that were excellent.

I've only done that once, i made me and my two brothers sit through the entire credits, at Pirates of the Caribbean: AT World's End movie this summer, because i knew that there was a special scene after the credits.
Only once.
Sometimes i may stay for like two minutes because i like the song, lol.

I'll sit through the credits if there's something happening during them. Knocked Up showed baby pictures. Some Disney films have outtakes. Some movie I saw this year had additional scenes (although they must not have impressed me because I don't remember which movie it was, lol). I'll also do it if I wanted to know who played a certain role, but then I'll only stay through the cast list.

Depends on how crowded the theater and where we are sitting, and also depends on the movie. Rush Hour movies are typically pretty funny and the Pirates of the Caribbean have some things like the monkey that took the cursed treasure. If you didn't see that you would wonder why the monkey was undead in the 2nd movie

But many times I don't

I like to see the names of supporting actors, watch a special scene that might be at the end and avoid the rush.

Usually because it's crowded and I want to avoid being in a mass of people. Sometimes if there's something in the film that I'd like to know. A location or a supporting actors name. Do I need to know who worked on the CG hair for Hammy the Squirrel? No. But maybe the voice of the character.

I usually do because sometimes the director adds a special scene at the end like in the last POTC and X Men

I sit through the "main" credits like the cast, cameramen, etc and I'll often wait for music credits, if any. I'm handicapped, so I wait for the crowd to thin out before I head out.
