When you put a no 3 batsman into an opening position forcing the person to provide a good start against the best bowling attack in the world, tragedies are bound to happen. No. 3 is the most important position in the batting lineup. Dravid is the dream no. 3 batsman. The starting of the middle order where accumulation of runs starts. This is where you require patience and hit the bad balls. Openers are responsible for providing a good start and maybe more if they continue. India's problem these days is that they have a lot of quality batsman but everyone of them is having trouble at one position or another where they are not used to coming in at that position. This is what happened to Dravid. Just to accommodate Yuvraj Singh in the lineup the entire batting lineup was shaken up. Laxman was brought in at 3 where he comes lower down the order. Karthik who is a specialist opener was left out to make way for Singh. If they had to include anybody it was Sehwag who can either take the attack to the bowlers or be out. Dravid is guaranteed to come in early before lunch everytime at one down because one of the openers always fails to fire. But he is under less pressure of providing a good start at that point. He plays the defensive role and let's the batsman at the other end take control while maintaining his own wicket and accumulating runs. What happened on the second day was a result of that opening the batting pressure. He should be at No. 3 where he's been a "Wall" for the Indian batting all along. Not opening where 50% or more of the times India fails. India should do something about that.

HE SCORED 5 RUNS FROM 66 BALLS.
No disrespect for Rahul dravid. But he really has to be more aggressive(he is too defensive at the moment). He needs to have a strike rate of at least 35.70.He had a strike rate of 7.57 which is extremely poor.

Rahul dravid has scored many runs in Australia before.
He has a lot of experience so he really needs to try and bat out more aggressively(like what sachin tendulkar did).
India do not have much choice at the moment. The only way India can get away from losing the test match is by 'ATTACKING'.

Though its not Dravid's natural cricket he has to do it for the team.

I agree. He reminded me of Steve Waugh, who was in terrible form during the 2000-2003 period. He too like Dravid, showed as if he had never played cricket against an international side.

He was just blocking the ball that came in his way.
What does he have to do? He is been asked to open, then
you ask him to hold his wicket and now you ask him to score
as well. Common.....Indians can do only one thing at a time.
Give him a break.....

He has been playing cricket since his childhood.
Why don't you ask the same question about Dhoni and Yuvi
who failed miserably. To top that, Yuvi showed dissent.
Indians batting was miserable and Aussies attack was great
and it was difficult to bat.

Second innings he will score, and then you want praise him!!!
Remember this is a game and lets live it there.
