1) Wikipedia for the win! Just search one or several things on it everyday and you'll be really knowledgeable in a bit.
2) Otherwise go through a decent high-school educational system. Procrastination is inevitable but at least learn something.
3) Read the newspaper.

If you can, get a decent newspaper each week/day and read that.
Listen to the news.
