Depends on their idea of help. Too many think they are helping by "knowing" what's right for you.

Very few have the discernment to know that less is more. Those few are precious; they listen perceptively, gently suggest if appropriate, and never push their solutions down your throat.

(And some lack the realization that great long, dense, tedious answers will regularly get thumbed down without being read, just to get them out of the way.)

You misunderstand, lalo. I'm the thumbsdowner. Those long things are my pet peeve. -z

Oh is this me you are talking about? Do you do this too? I push everyone away. For me, it personally comes from a bad childhood and I think people who do this have usually been hurt and it's a form of self protection but it means lonliness and feeling isolated, which I always do. Christmas day for example was so suckful. I do have my husband and son but we have no one else. I am so alone (sob sob splutter splutter). When I have good friends I seem to suddenly sabotage it and back away, I hate that I do this, but I do. I also back off from cliques (groups of people who attach themselves and become very selective) because I have cliques. I never seem to fit into them. I never seem to fit with people in general, so I know I'm the problem and not other people. I was never popular and some things never change.
What to do about it? I tried therapy etc over the years which was great but didn't really change anything permanently. It's more about self acceptance. So this is the way it's going to be, I've tried to change it and I can't, so I will just live with it. I don't hate being alone, I don't hate being lonely, generally, but sometimes it feels rotton.

Hope you have better success in dealing with this than I had, good luck.

Yes. Sometimes when someone offers me help I don't accept it. They said that they're the one who's offering help then I don't accept it.. It's because sometimes I think that I don't want to have a credit for helping me.. Now I realized that I must accept it when someone offers help because "No one lives for his own only".. Happy New Year.. :)

Do I ever...

I can't decide if it is a pride thing or just being stubborn. I just know I need to open my heart/mind before I get too old to do so.

I am sure there have been times when I have done that in the past....I know I used to think it was called "interfering". But I am working on it.
