If you have a clitoral or clitoral hood piercing, you should be fine to leave it in until delivery unless it becomes uncomfortable. You may find that your clitoris and surrounding area change , so be aware of your piercings and ensure that your jewlery still fits them correctly.

If you have labial piercings, keep an eye on them. The vulva can change shape a bit (usually getting fuller) durring pregnancy. If they start to get tugged, feel uncomfortable, or start to shift position, see your piercer about being fitted for new jewlery solutions.

The only genital piercings I would consider a real danger durring pregnancy would be a fourchette (female guiche) or any other piercings along the perineum. These would obviously be a risk if you needed an episiotomy or they could tear on their own durring labor. I would begin the process of letting these close if you had them.

Of course your jewlery will need to come out for the process of delivery (or c-section if you are wearing metal jewlery). This prevents them from accidentally getting ripped out or in the case of surgery prevents the risk of shock from certain instruments. But as soon as you are finished or conscious your jewlery can be reinserted.

If you're really not sure, consult your obstetrician. They see hundreds of these piercings and have experienced them in labor. Also many piercers have spouses or have had personal experience with genital piercings and pregnancy. They're a great source for jewlery suggestions and anecdotes.

My guess is you'll have to take it out in the later months. I'm not sure if it will close up, that would depend on how long you have had it...i've never had a piercing there so I really couldn't say. Just thought I would offer my advice & guess

My friend had one and asked the same question. Her doctor said it wasn't necessary to take it out because of the location of it. I would just ask your doctor, he/she will know best.

If you do have to take it out, it may or may not close depending on the skin and how long you have had it. Most likely it shouldn't and you should be able to put it back in soon after birth. If it does, just pierce it again. It didn't hurt to bad the first time did it? :o)

You will have to take it out when you go to the hospital to give birth.

I think you can leave it in till then. If you have a vaginal birth you will probably have no desire to replace it for a good while.

My honest opinion though, is that piercings are about teen angst and rebellion, when it is time to be a mom it is time to grow up. I had lots of things pierced at one time, but I am a grown up and a mom now.....time to move on.

You'll really want to take it out. When the head delivers, you don't always tear downward, you can tear around your urethra, your labia, and around your clitoris. You don't want something ripping out. I've seen it, it isn't pretty. And it doesn't heal well, either.
