for example I need to chat with my work colleagues..is there any easy program to use..I really don't understand about ips and stuff like that so I don't know how to configure them!

Just use instant messengers such as yahoo or msn ! The good thing about using im is that now you do not have to download any software to use then as they are web based meaning you can log in right from the web page. Make sure your colleagues have an account with the i.m. you choose.

Some users can operate with net send or msg command. This service is included in Windows usually.
But LAN chat applications are more easy to use. Just install and you should see all clients in network.
Program sits in tray and start flashing when any message arrives.
