It is not OK under average circumstances. In most situations a man needs to remain clear headed and emotionally strong in order to face a tough world and keep the family safe and secure. There are, however, times when it is absolutely therapeutic. I fell into a state of deep depression awhile back that developed over some years due to a failed marriage which left me with a need to manage a household with two little boys. After that another failed relationship followed by the loss of a job. My youngest son was going through emotional problems due to the breakup of the marriage, dropped out of school and was having problems finding any direction in his life. I no sooner got another job and was beginning to feel secure when I stepped off a ladder and broke my foot. I was designing a show at the time and needed to be at the theater to see that the show was handled correctly but could not do so. The show was not properly finished and was badly lit. I had heard of depression but did not truly understand what that meant until the day I sat on the sofa in my front room with my broken foot in a cast propped up in front of me and cried for about an hour straight. After wards I felt as though my soul had been cleansed. I realized that I needed to "getmyshittogether".I got up on my crutches and started moving. My life is by no means perfect but it is a hell of a lot better.

I feel that it takes a man of strength and great character to cry. This is very appealing; it reveals the human being in a man. It reflects sensitivity and emotions that are felt by all mankind - no one is exempt. If an animal can cry when hurt or abused, then why can't a man as a human being?
To all the strong men! "Cry if you want to" - thanks for keeping it real when you do.

As from a small child i have been told "big boys dont cry" this is instilled into you which gives you the belief that crying is a form of weakness.
It took me 20 odd years to realize that emotion that is welled up inside is harm full to yourself, yes i cry from time to time this keeps me emotionally healthy, im not keen others seeing me cry though but it has been known.
Good question by the way :D

Wow, what a great question. I thought i might have a different answer but i see that i don't. I agree with most everyone that answered. Yes, it is fine for a guy to cry as long as he is crying over something worth crying for. It shows he is human.

men have feelings too. its kinda rude for a woman to say its not appealing to see a man express his emotions. i heard of many men saying that women cry to much, but never a woman say a man shouldnt cry.

Guys are humans too. It's ok for them to cry. I think when they cry it's something that has struck them either in a awesome way or a tragic way. It's real when they cry.

(shaking my head) OK, which is it cry or don't cry, Women need to make up your minds and decide already.
It's not OK to cry when your team looses the game and it's ok to cry when You have mail turns out the same way, from the last 20 times you watched it.
I am so confused !!!! :)

IMO you're better off not giving a damn what anybody thinks about your emotional life -- unless somebody you respect advises you that s/he's disturbed by the way you've been acting.

I think it's wonderful for a guy to show his emotion. Sometimes it tells us chicks they really care about something.
