it may have been selfish for Bhutto to return to Pakistan, or more importantly remain in pakistan after her first assassination attempt 2 months ago - however i do think that her heart was in the right place - she wanted democracy in pakistan, a cause which she fought till death.
As for women in power, Bhutto never actually ever did anything for the women of Pakistan - this may have been because of the opposition from the countries Mullahs but she never did anything about the hoodia laws. Women are still suffering from low social status, lack of education and so on.
For a leader who served two terms, she could have done a lot better!

I don't think you can compare these deaths. Bhutto was assasinated because of her political stance and would have been in the same danger had she been a man. She has never been afraid of using her gender to raise her political profile but she cannot be compared to society figures such as Kelly or Callas. So far as I know, no hard evidence has ever been produced to suggest any political involvement in Monroe's death and the jury is literally still out on Diana's.
I don't know what you mean about 'When you think of all the male politicians, and all the attempted assassinations of males.....' - there have been plenty of men assasinated for a variety of causes.
This is very sad and worrying news on a global scale, not part of the war of the sexes - don't trivialise it.

I'm sorry that Bhutto is gone, too.
However, as mentioned above, Princesses Grace and Diana died in car wrecks, and Marilyn and Maria died of drug overdoses.
How can you say that Marilyn and Maria were "powerful, independent, headstrong women"? They were controlled by all the men around them.

I think there are women out there that hold more power than those you mention. The women you mention are in no doubt icons, but I don't think I would rate them up there with Bhutto...with a possible exception to the late Princess Diana.
Any time you have change an political unrest the threat of assassination is increased, especially to those who are going against the ways of the government. She was a great leader and was great force to promote equality of women, especially in that part of the world. Sadly there are risks when promoting change and sacrifices many are willing to take. Her safety was her sacrifice which lead to the ultimate sacrifice.

Pakistan's Bhutto was killed by a bombing
Pakistan opposition leader Benazir Bhutto was assassinated Thursday in a suicide bombing that also killed at least 20 others at a campaign rally.
At 6:16 p.m. she died
Her supporters at the hospital began chanting "Dog, Musharraf" referring to Pakistan's president Pervez Musharraf. Some of them smashed the glass door at the main entrance of the emergency unit, others burst into tears.
No one really knows what this will do to Pakistan's stability

She was targeted in her 1st rally, i wish she would have seen this thing coming. It was bound to happen. Many of her supporters died for nothing and its a great loss. I have nothing against her but still she was a key figure to be targeted as the elections were just around the corner and it could've been prevented im sure.

I am not sure what your point is here Dianne and Grace were killed in car accidents and were princesses (by marriage). Maria Callas (opera singer) and Marilyn (actor) were certainly not in power and in fact both died of drug overdoses.
Bhutto is an international figure - a ray of hope to bring Pakistan into the 21st century. Her death is not good for Pakistan.

I don't think this tells us anything about Women in Power, though I find it funny that you named several movie stars...I guess you could call that power back then. People in the public eye are always a possible assassination, like you said plenty of males have been killed too. My understanding is Bhutto was as corrupt as the current Philippine president and some say the same about our candidate Hillary Clinton.

I don't think it says much about women in power, necessarily; it just goes to show how destructive political opposition can become. I'm sickened. She was a very admirable person.

It makes me sick also of her death another senseless HATE act. She was not the only one who died there were at least twenty others +-. the point should not be about women or their status it should be about Leadership and fighting for peace. while keeping your followers Safe. Male or female whats the difference Hate does Discriminate and that sucks. Big time.
