Oblivion (The Elder Scrolls) Help! I am having lots of trouble leveling up!?

Question

for ps3 btw. Im an archer born under the sign of the warrior. I cant level up. Are there any tips you can give me. I'm on level 3.

Like do you just wack away at trees and stuff to get your blade up???

You have to level up the Major skills for your class. Go to your character screen and make note of those skills labeled as Major. I don't know the Archer skills, but I'm guessing it's things like Marksman, Light Armor, Sneak, etc. Use these skills in a "meaningful" way and you'll level.

You can't practice Blade, Blunt or Marksman just by shooting at trees - you have to have a legitimate target. Run around killing wolves and rats and such with your weapon of choice.

Likewise, you can't practice Sneak without something to hide from. Sneak behind a town guard or in a room with a sleeping NPC for easy levels in Sneak.

You have to kill stuff. No offense, but it's kind of silly to be an archer and master Blade. It's a good backup weapon, but focus on your bow first. Once you get to later levels, you'll be able to disarm, knock down, and paralyze with headshots from the bow. Basically, wander around the world until you find a dungeon, go in, and kill everything. Once you've killed enough, you should see a little crescent moon with an arrow pointing up inside it, that means you can level up. Find a bed in an inn, or a vacant bed, and sleep in it for an hour, and you'll be leveled up!

Well with leveling comes more difficult monsters so I don't recommend leveling by any "unnatural" means but here are some stupid easy ways to level.

If you have a school of magic as a primary skill create a really crappy spell and cast it over and over. For example, let's say you have restoration, buy a spell that does something like heal 1 point on self for no duration. It will probably cost 1 mana so you should be able to cast it nearly indefinitely without running out of mana.

Another easy way to level is Alchemy, simply because of the myriad of ingredients you can find for cheap.

Now for the "difficult" or "tricky" way to level. You need to purchase, and be able cast the drain skill spell. Then make a spell that casts Drain "Skill X" magnitude 100 on self for like 2-3 seconds. Find a trainer for "Skill X" and stand next to them. Cast the spell on yourself and it will completely drain you skill thus allowing you to train in the skill for 1gold. This effectively makes leveling any skill to the maximum cost no more than 95g.

Keep in mind though your leveling bonuses will completely suck using any power leveling method since the stat bonus is based on actual usage rather than training. You'll wind up with a really unbalanced character.

There's also many ways to spam other skills like summoning zombies and letting them beat you up to raise armorer, or boxing them to raise unarmed but you should get the idea by now.

EDIT:
Actually to the first poster getting level 50+ is entirely possible, you just have to get repeatedly arrested to drain your skills. On the downside it doesn't really do anything but make the game harder.

Ok first all you have to do once you get out of the sewers you just walk around the area discovering new places finding new caves and just go throught the caves and kill whatever is in your path and you will level up a tremendous amount of levels.Oh and just hacking away at trees or the ground does no help at all and is a waste of time.If you follow my advicee you will be level 100 in no time heck my accounts level is 121!!

In order to level up you must increase your major skills by a combined ten levels. Major skills are the seven skills that you chose at the beginning of the game.

I CAN HELP!!!!!!!!!!! I have 3 guys.... archer, warrior, and mage. My warrior is lvl 47, archer is lvl 33, Mage is lvl 38. Wat are your main 7 lvls?

Edit: That guy below me is lying. The highest lvl is 50 unless u use cheats. I have beaten the main quest, over 200 side quests, and i have over 3 millions dollars. I am the highest rank in every guild and there is only 2 skills that i have that arent 100.
