If this cricket is given more importance than hockey in India
than I think that cricket should be our national game instead of
hockey

Because of money....
All admins want to bring the best value for their money invested. Hence Cricket soon after 1971/73 wins by India,
followed by 1983 WC Cup win, it was all cricket.
Ask the young Indian generation and they do not even know
that hockey was the National game, which assured us a gold
medal until 1960s.
As I recall, once someone mentioned that every dollar spent
on Cricket, they get 25-50 times more in revenue.
Can Hockey, Soccer or any other sport do it in India?
It is the marketing with the results needed.

Well cricket is having more charm and britishers has given this in heritage like so many other things. Hockey is not having that charm and hence it is not getting more importance. Cricket is highly saleable commodity and it has become hotcake. It may get status of national game by pressure of vested interest

Cuz we've won olympic gold for hockey like 6 or 8 times. This slowly stopped during the 80s when the media and broadcasting industries started to grow. And this coincided with our world cup victory in 83. So cricket became more popular.

Cricket brings a lot of money.
And that's why it is dominating Indian sports.
Other sports like soccer, hockey can bring even more money but people don't want to invest money in other sports

human beings supply greater magnitude to cricket than hockey.there are a lot of motives.a lot of human beings don't be responsive to the regulations of Hockey. using fact they do no longer opt to play hockey . they opt to play and watch cricket.

b'coz cricket is given more publicity by the media............once we get used to cricket its hard to change our choice...............moreover i am an ardent cricket fan and i find hockey a bit boring.........just bcoz our national team won a few medals at olympics it shouldnt be made the game of games

coz india won world cup in 83 when there was media to popularise it. while our hockey team used to do spectacular stuff in the 1930-50(due to sir dhyanchand) when there was not much media to create a hype.
