I noticed yday that the rev counter fluctuated slowly up and down between 1.5 rev to 0.8 rev (x1000).

can some mechanic please help on what it could be thanks.

Try spraying a little silicone spray or WD-40 spray lubricant into the gap where the steering wheel attaches to the steering column in the car. Then with the engine running, turn the wheel somewhat back and forth to exercise the motion and maybe you'll get the lubricant in there to stop the squeak. A rolling idle could be due to a lean engine condition (read below). Also try fuel tank additives as below.

Consider all ball-joints and tie-rod ends. We could use the brand, and model of your car.

An alignment shop can easily check these parts as the front wheels are run up on free standing plates with bearings under them. The technician then pries on all suspension linkages till he notices looseness inside the ball-joints and inner and outer tie-rod ends if it's a front wheel drive car. Everything is non-grease-able these days and they go dry and get loose faster than their counterpart grease-able ball joints and tie-rod ends.

At the same time your CV joints can be inspected for torn boots.

If you have a wandering idol condition 3M Total Fuel System Cleaner is the very best cleaning product out there for: Throttle body, intake manafold, fuel injecters, valves and most importantly combustion chambers. It can be found at any NAPA auto parts store. They also have Techron (Chevron) cleaner also. Dump either cleaner in your gas tank with 14 gallons of gas and go on an extended long trip for the best results.
