Here in the deep south in the States we eat Hogs Jowl and Black eyed Peas. I like mine with corn bread and greens with fried potatoes. I'm not sure what the symbolism or superstition is but we've been doing it for several generations and i like it!

It's just tradition....started out as 'you're gonna have good luck in the new year'...but, that don't happen....so, now it's a good way to get rid of excess cabbage and black eyed peas...which are delicious!!!!!

Eating black-eyed peas is supposed to bring good luck for the entire year.

Because it is a substantial meal when served with greens and cornbread it is to bring good luck and prosperity for the new year.Showing you have plenty and will continue to have,and yes it mostly works!Happy New Year!
