Jehovah's Witnesses are considered a cult because they are different from other religions or 'weird' (as an user answered above me). Of course they are different since they are the only ones who respect the laws found in the Bible. The world hates what is not part of her. People don't really know the definition of the cult.

"If you were part of the world, the world would be fond of what is its own. Now because you are no part of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, on this account the world hates you." -- John 15:19

It's any religion someone doesn't like.

It's much like Orwell's definition of fascism- "...the word ‘Fascism’ is almost entirely meaningless. In conversation, of course, it is used even more wildly than in print. I have heard it applied to farmers, shopkeepers, Social Credit, corporal punishment, fox-hunting, bull-fighting, the 1922 Committee, the 1941 Committee, Kipling, Gandhi, Chiang Kai-Shek, homosexuality, Priestley's broadcasts, Youth Hostels, astrology, women, dogs and I do not know what else ... Except for the relatively small number of Fascist sympathisers, almost any English person would accept ‘bully’ as a synonym for ‘Fascist’. That is about as near to a definition as this much-abused word has come."

a cult is a religion that is said to be unorthodox or that emphasize devotion according to prescribe ritual. Many cults follow a living human leader, and often their adhere live in groups apart from the rest of society.

The standard for what us orthodox, however, should be God's word, and Jehovah's Witnesses strictly adhere to the bible. their worship is a way of life, not a ritual devotion. They neither follow
a human nor isolate themselves from the rest of society. They live and work in the midst of other people.

A cult is group or movement, usually based around a belief (religious or not), that uses it's laws and ideals to ristrict and bind its members to a way of life that is usually only beneficial to the leader.

In other words, cults are NOT mainstream, public, organised religion. Members of standard organised religions are free to move as they want, believe as they want (or not believe) and worship as they want.

A cult is a group following something other than Scripture. There is no "J" in Hebrew, therefore the Almighty's name cannot have a "J" in it. QED All organizations are cults, not excepting the Catholic "Church".
