Engine will not reach the corect temp as fast as it should causing a check engine light. Nissan cars almost never overheat because the T/stat is not opening enough replace it only with the correct Nissan part if you must.. You need to replace the part of the cooling system that is actually causing the over heating. E-Mail me and describe how the engine heats up and how it over heats at speed at idle or only when the A/C is turned on. I live and work in Texas same climatic conditions a little more humid 6 months different. Most likely your radator needs hosing out wash with a garden hose nozzel spray out the radator back to front and see what gets blow out onto the ground. Insects tree seeds and grass debris off the road can stop the air flow thru the radator. You can shine a flashlight thru a clean radator and condencer and see light from in front of the car. Check It out!

It's safe, but the car needs to be ran at a certain temp. and without the thermostat it can never reach that temp. Plus if you have cold winters good luck cuz your car will never get warm in the car. IF your having overheating problems and you've already replaced the thermostat than you have other problems like a bad water pump or a blockage.
