Ok I understand that the water many places in Mexico may contain bacteria or virus's or something that may make you sick. The problem is, if I go, I would be travleing to Toluca, Mexico, and staying with my husbands family, I will also have my 3 year old son with me. I would guess that it would be very difficult for me to make certian that we used nothing but bottled water, for cooking, washing vegies, brushing teath, bathing my 3 year old who still drinks the bath water, ect., ect., ect. So how do I know if the waters safe and what can I do if it's not? Also wondering about any immunizations my son might need before going.

thank you for your help, but i already understand that you should use bottled water. My question is how am i supposed to make sure that happens. I will be having an extended stay, and I will be living with family, that will probably be preparing most of the meals. Not at a hotel, that is used to catering to international travlers.

It's not that the water's not safe... the Mexicans drink it all the time with no problems. The problem is for people who live in the US. Our bodies are not accustomed to the particular bacteria or whatnot in their water, and it can cause us to become sick. But this can happen anytime you travel to a different place and drink tap water your body's not used to. For instance, I live in another state from my parents and my mom will bring bottled water with her when she visits because her system is so temperamental. I would recommend sticking with bottled water as much as possible. It would be no fun getting sick on a trip.

I don't know of any immunizations your son might need... I'd ask your doctor about that one.
