The Bali 9 can stay in jail as far as I am concerned - they trafficked the drugs, got caught and are jailed per Bail law. Hope Rudd stays out of it.

Kevin Rudd is fine and is making his mark. Australia is in a better position with the world because of it, we are not brown-nosing Bush any more.
The Government can make no representations about the Bali 9 at this stage as nothing is happening. Should things move onto a stage where it would be appropriate for the Government to intervene, you can expect them to do so.
There is, however, a dilemma. The Australian Labor Party is against the death penalty under any circumstances. Many Australians share that view. If the Government wants to plead for the life of people under sentence of death, it should plead for everyone, not just the select few. Singapore pointed this out when they hanged Nguyen Tuong Van.
If the Government is to make repersentations to spare the lives of the Bali 9, they should do the same for the Bali bombers. Most Australians would support the Government in its pleas for the Bali 9 but most would condemn the Government were it to plead for the Bali Bombers. And yet, if the pleas for the Nine are to be taken seriously, Indonesia would expect us to plead for the bombers. It is not a position I envy Kevin Rudd being in.

The new PM, Kevin Rudd, can't be any worse than the previous PM.
