You can carry the essentials in your pockets. So, I think, the photograph of your loved one would be the answer. At least it would be so for me.

I agree with Anthony... money. You can buy anything you want once you are here.
However you might bring the most expensive rug you can get your hands on and make a profit selling it over here. (Handknotted, vegetable dyes, handspun wool.)
Keepsakes are all that would be left to bring.

I would take Istanbul with me:)
