Its really all based on genetics however there are some things such as smoking , alcohol , caffine and harder drugs that will negatively affect your health if done in excess.

I'm not sure if this works for everyone, but it worked for me. I think a lot of it depends on your discipline and detirmination and the way your body works. For me, I was always the tallest in all my classes until one day someone told me I was too tall, so I always wanted to be short afterwards. I stopped growing in grade 6 at 5'5". My body still grew a bit but my legs stopped. You know how people look ugly with short legs... so then I really started being detirmined to grow taller. Because my body sucks and disposes just about everything in a matter of seconds, I took vitamins, different teas, running, basketball, swimming, volleyball, tennis and badminton. Within two months I grew 2 inches. So it's basically your genetics and your detirmination. If you REALLY wanted to grow taller, then work at it 100% and it'll happen. I'm now 5'6" and a bit more, and still growing as a 14 year old. Just try doing strethes for at least 30 mins three times a day, exercise at least 3 hours a day, eat VERY HEALTHY, lots of fibre, calcium, vitamin D (can get from the sun), don't eat sugar substitues, caffine with the exception of tea or ramen.

Usually height stops growing at the age of 19 to 21 and you are 17 then you can increase your heigth. The way to increase your heigth is to massage your legs or if possible whole body, it should be daily massage but not loose massage just to relax yor body it should be a tight massage which will streach your body, Isnt this sounds somthing different form the above posts. Anyways, i have the experience and now my heigth is 6 feets. The results are perfect. If you are over wieght make it less. Ya but make sure you will not get the results early or very soon, it will take time. Not 3-4 months more than that, depending how your body responce. Now lets come on diet, eat whatever you want but limited not over food. Eat only till your hunger is satisfied.
Thats it. you will be long and tall with great personality.

Hello. Thats an everlasting popular demand & u r not the only one with this so called "problem". the asker is righteously worried as the normal growth spurt is early on for the girls with their menarche.
Info thats missing is what is the average height of her grown up family members and her own height as well. So its clear as the other answers, that heredity has a definite role to play.
Once this has been ruled out as the probable cause, then i would suggest to have extra calcium in the diet from milk. Of course few do have a late growth spurt as late as around 18-20 years.
the diet has to be supplemented with stretching exercises like hanging from a bar or a strong suspension. Few asanas like taadaasan from yoga also helps.
But to tell you dude, suggesting all these means that "I am not accepting myself as I am". In fact there are lot of girls who wanna make a more fashion statement by using high heeled shoes. You may try that, but please, please dont overdo that to avoid any back problems.
Most of my friends with lesser height are cleverer than their taller colleagues (just statistics with no scientific basis). The medical investigation of checking your growth hormone would come into picture only if ur height is not matching your family members.
so enjoy being what you are, so that you dont spend your energy in this issue and concentrate on more constructive work.

Myself Sandeep (Sandy) suggest you a best way to increase your height, in other words growing tall.
1. Try to hangup on a Iron rod 3-4 times a day.
2. Also do a Yoga : First of all, laying on the bed and then bend your legs from buttocks and when the legs is going upside, you also put your hands behind your buttocks and push it up. It mean you are on the shoulders and head on the bed and the whole body is in the air with the help of your hands.
I know that these things defenately growing you tall.

Hey, first of all, since u r 17 already and since u r a female (I guess), then u dont hve much time to gain height.

But still, u shuldnt loose hope.

The best way to hve a fast growing height is to swim.
Swimming is the best exercise as it is a total work out.

The reason y one's height stops increasin after certain age is tht, the space between the bones in the joins (Knees etc) gets filled up. Proper exercise, at proper age, prolongs this phenomenon as also activates the elongation of bones (confusing ehh??)..

I would suggest you to swim a lot...its fun and benefitial...
Or else cycling is good..

Cycling, Playing Basketball, Exercising on the Iron Bars found in the Parks & Skipping are the best ways to grow tall.

1.Sleep early(11pm max) and wake up by 5:30am.
2.Dink a glass of water. and complete daily works.
3.Sit quitely and meditate in a well ventilatedroom or in a park
or at a place without any disturbance.
4.Think and believe that u R getting taller slowly day by day
5.Get up,do a brisk walk and jug and then run -15mins.Take
breaks in between.
6.again sit and rest.Wait till your breath is normal.
7.Do Pranayama-it will increase Oxygen supply to your body.
8.Do joint movement exercises,sarvangasana,surya namaskaretc-30mins either under the guidance of an expert
or from a book or slf help Cds.
9.Do savasana atlast -5 mins.
10.Take food after 45mins-luke warm milk & seasonal fruits.
11.Don't eat toomuch at a time.Eat with breaks.Have a boiled egg a day.
12.Read psitive mental attiude books e.g.U CAN WIN.
13.Avoid negetive atmosphere.
14.Write in a paper " I AM GETTING TALLER" and place it somewhere you can see freqently.
15.Do thse things for 21 days till it becomes your habit.
16.Never give up.
17.Don't choose a tall boy freind or one u like.Give attention
to him who likes u,not your body.

Nothing works except a balanced diet followed by active life and enough sleep to drain the toxins. I have seen people growing without special efforts. Because height is a function of your genes and heredity. I suggest you to look for the father's family , if the sisters of your fathers are taller, you too will be. Otherwise it is hard for your to gain a good height.

Growing tall in life is important than any physical growth. You are at a point of life where your career is important.Once you are sucessful in career people will look up to you in the same way as they would look up to a tall person.

sorry to break this but as many of them said genetics plays a major role for ur height. i a girl and i am the tallest among my cousins who by the way are boys and girls both their parents are of medium height. so eat well, stay away from smoking, drinking they are not only bad for health but effect the growth in various ways, lots of stretching it will help. yet again if you don't grow tall accept that height is not everything.
