Scientists performed taste tests in which it was shown that people could not tell the difference between Pepsi and Coca Cola by taste and sight alone. Participants were asked to give an answer as either 'Pepsi' or 'Coca Cola'; their answers were no better than they would have been if they had flipped a coin. Psychologists put the imaginary taste difference down to how people perceive the two brands, due to factors such as advertising.
