It will probably continue even after you leave this planet, unfortunately. We need to get out of the "them vs. us" mentality and get into the "love thy neighbor" mentality, REGARDLESS OF YOUR RELIGION.

It's funny that the leaders of the "modern world" seem to find it necessary to create enemies and conflicts.
I think they are playing on our basic fears.
The fear that "they" want to take something from "us".
I think this will only stop when people wake up and realize that the only conflict is between the governments not between the people.
If this is true then why don't Osama bin Laden and George Bush put on the gloves and duke it out.
There's no need to send innocent people to far off lands to die.

And you are just now figuring this out ? I have known this basic truth since about 1972 I was 14 and told people of the impending collapse of the USSR { they laughed of course } and also predicted the financial collapse of this country shortly thereafter . Look at the facts man if something isn't done quickly I doubt this country will last 5 years . If you think it can't happen start reading history books . Remember this while you are reading they thought it couldn't happen to them either .

Yep same stupid reaction I got in 1972 !!!!

There is such a thing as YOU for sure. That attracts 'Us' and we form a group of similar. It becomes 'We'
'Them" (different from us) will always come around and investigate 'You' and 'Us'.
When 'We' change, so do 'They'.
If 'They' change first - 'We' go and investigate.
Nothing stands still.

What are you, a communist?

I agree, we fall too easily into that way of thinking, especially on a national level. We are far more similar than we are different. The more you learn about them, the more they seem like us!

You are absolutely right . But it is mainly the corrupted arrogant politicians with exploiting nature that always need a victim ( enemy ) to justify their misdeeds .
They are using strong media and ill propaganda to brainwash society , and unfortunately they are succeeding in achieving their purpose .

This should be in Society and Culture, but I'll answer this anyway.

The concept of "us and them" is all in your head and is an issue shaped by the media. We are all one big happy family regardless of race, culture, language or religion. It is only our prejudices that create "us and them". There is no "us and them'. There is only "us."
