I have a Jeep website http://www.4-the-love-of-jeeps.com and although I am biased toward Jeeps, I would like to know what anyone thinks about other 4x4's as well as Jeeps.

It would definately be a Jeep, since Jeep created "off-roading" back in WW2. Probably a 2006 Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon. I drive a 2005 Wrangler Unlimited 2-door and i love the extra space. Also I would LOVE to have any one of the WW2 jeeps restored. Or possibly a Jeep CJ-8, Grand Wagoneer, Commanche, or at least an older model CJ. I would even be happy with a CJ-7 or maybe an older Cherokee. Although I'm a little uneasy about the new JK, i would be happy with a new one too. Jeeps are amazing, and no other brand should have the right to call their imitations "off-road vehicles."

Although I currently have a Jeep (setup for desert and rock crawling) I would say that for the bang for your buck a Suzuki Samauri is hard to beat! Suspension lift, Tires and at least a rear locker and you can go just about anywhere on a budget toss in a gear change and a second set of lockers and it is just about unstoppable! Had mine for 13 years and still miss it, setting up the Jeep like the Sammy was $$$ and the Jeep really is Just Empty Every Pocket,

Jeep is #1 in my book.

If I were a rich person, I would think about buying a Hummer H-1 Alpha SUT. But I dont think those come in Green. All of the vehicles I have bought in the past 8 years have been green or some variation of green. 2 Suburbans, 3 Pickups, and my beloved Jeep Wrangler.

Jeep Wrangler Rubicon with factory front and rear lockers, rock-crawler transfer case, 4" lift, 33" tires.

I currently own a stock 96 Jeep Grand Chrokee ZJ 4x4 and love it. It goes where I want to go and places I probably shouldn't go but can because of the Jeep's capability.

First off you need to be honest with yourself about what you'll be doing with you new toy. I have had my 74' Chevy 3/4T 4X4 with a 6" lift-383-auto-4.11-36"s + detroits and 12,000# winch, on board air etc, for 23 years and it's a good all purpose P.U. as it hauls / pulls / plows snow and hunts along with mild rock crawling {ICEMAN+FULLSIZE}. Then my 91' Chevy Suburban with 5.7tbi+ Paxton, 4spd auto 4X4 3.73 and 31"s with 10,000# winch used for daily driving and everything from pulling the boat or toy trailer with ATV's- motorcycles-snowmobiles to long distance travel, hauling dogs and hitting the trails. 96' Jeep XJ with 3" lift and 31"s and 8000# winch for daily driver and weekend trail toy. For serious rock work my 04' LJ Rubicon with a 6" Long Arm kit and 37"s, Air Aid and Tuner along with a Warn PowerPlant Dual Force HP Winch / Compressor on custom bumpers, Onboard extras like fire extenguishers and a medical kit for every vehicle alng with extracation equipment like chains, jacks, airbags, gloves, shovels,CB's,etc. The down side to this one is it takes the challange out of all but the most serious trails as it just goes through everything and it is really not happy with slick roads but carrys us and friends through the nasty stuff {Kong, BuzzWorm,Hail John, etc.} with ease and finesse. Then there is my 06' Dodge Cummins 4X4 with a 4" lift and 35's, a bit of motor work and runs the 1/4 in the low 14's and on weekends pulls a truck Pull Sled if there is one going on close buy and during the week pulls a jobsite trailer around to jobs and other yeoman work duties. Figure out what you want it to do before you buy and start customizing cause once you start you can't quit and you'll also find your never finished. Some cool new toy will come out that you have to have or you'll break an axle and find yourself upgrading both etc.etc.etc. , Just lay out a plan before starting and follow it. One more thing to consider is the new warrenty at Dodge and Jeep, NO ONE ELSE has a LIFETIME drive train warrenty !

Jeep Scrambler. Like the pickup truck. Always wanted one of these. Also like the 2 door Wrangler Unlimited with the long wheelbase. Or a Lamborghini LM002.

My personal choice would be International Scout 800 (i.e., the small one 1965-1971 ) with an IH V8 (304), 4-spd transmission (T-98, T-18 or NP 435) and Dana 20 T-case.

As these were pretty basic, not too many factory options could be had. Although a winch would be a nice addition.

I have:
1968 Kaiser Jeepster Commando
1983 AMC Jeep CJ7 Laredo
2007 Chrysler Jeep 4dr Wrangler JK

I would love to it if Chrysler would put a 3.8 CRD in a Wrangler even 4.7 magnum!!!

if you could afford it, I would go with a late 80's or 90-91 Jeep grand wagoneer 4x4. You should find one that has been mechanically restored. They are great old cars.
