yes it is ,anyone with a scanner can erase the light from being on,they can also read the computer and tell if it has any other trouble codes on it also, but they light can be made to turn off once the service has been done, you can even turn it off without having the service done, you do need to have this checked though there's a lot of things that can make the light come on,and it needs to be checked, and the engine may still need servicing, good luck with it.

No it's not true. If the engine controller loses power for just a few seconds, it will erase the code and turn off the light. so disconnect the neg. cable at the battery and then hook it back up If the problem still exists when you hook it back up, the light will come back on. If it is a problem that shows up while driving, then it will come on while driving. There are way too many things that will turn on the light to try and mention here. The 'service engine soon' means that one of several sensors has picked up something out of range or the sensor isn't working right. Changing oil and servicing the van is not part of the format, however overheating and very low oil pressure will also turn on the light. If it dose come back on after a battery disconnect, You will have to take it to some one with scanner to read the codes to see what is making it come on. There are a lot of people here in the U.S. that just drive their vehicle with the 'service engine' light on and don't give it a second thought as long as it dosen't overheat and has oil pressure. Good luck and happy new year!

Service engine soon could mean hundreds of things. Could mean the oxygen sensor needs replacing, the cam sensor is damaged, cylinders 1 and 2 not working, inappropriate mixture of gasoline and air detected, etc.... I can go on and on. The computer does help to read the problem but if you want it to just shut the light off remove the battery for at least a day and it will erase the computer, but if the problem is on going the light will come on on the next trip you make or usually after 100km or 65miles.

Yes it's true. The S.E.S.. light comes on when the computer senses there is a problem with one of the emission sensors like the O2 sensor or such. You will need to have it diagnosed and repaired then you can have the computer cleared of that code and that will turn the light off. You can have it turned off without fixing the problem but it will come on again after the computer detects the problem three more ignition sequences.
