But after the season the sabres had last am i expecting too much by expecting them to do so well? i know they lost two key components from last year's team, but dont the good teams overcome their challenges and still find ways to win?

They are doing better than I thought they would.
Its nopt just losing those players. Other players like Vanek and Afinogenov had way better years last year because the other teams focused a lot of enrgy on Briere and Drury. So there is both the direct loss of their numbers and then also a ripple effect whereby the other players go down. Considering, I think 2 points out of 3rd and 3 points out of 2nd is not overly impressive but they haven't freefalled or hurt their playoff chances.

Even if my Flyers aren't doing their best to bring out the best in other teams, I have stated many times how I thought the Sabres were a deep team and would eventually overcome the departures of Briere and Drury. The real question is how long that would take. I would have expected maybe just before the playoffs to perhaps the All Star game for next season, but it seems that the Sabres are starting to get it together already.
They are a good team that will do well.

I figure they are doing pretty well, considering who they lost.
And losing those guys is letting others get more important roles on the ice/more ice time.
Look at the standings now, If they win their next game (they have a game in hand over division rivals Boston) they take sole posession of 4th place in the conference.
They will not catch up to Ottawa this year, so it's all about putting together 3-4 game winning streaks and only losing one (two at most) while on those streaks, and they will make the playoffs.

hey I'm expecting the Leafs to make the playoffs at the least this year after getting Toskala, Blake & Bell. Toskala has done really good for us lately but unfortunately that cant be said for Bell & Blake. maybe it wont be the same case with the Sabres this year as it has been so far for Bell & Blake.

I picked Buffalo to finish with 95 points this year and 2nd in their division, 4th/5th in the conference. Right now they are on pace for 92 points, and 1 point out of 4th in the conference.
So, they are doing about as I expected.
I have to admit, that while the team performance is where I expected............I expected better years out of players like Vanek, Afinogenov, and Connolly.

Those two losses were quite big. They did nothing to replace them so they are basically getting exactly what the should. When a team decides that Vanek is their "go to guy" it will be a long season!! That was the #1 brain dead move they made.

Yes, good teams will overcome, but when 2 key componants that made you a good team are gone, its easier said than done. They used to spread their talent out, but now they are predictable, and are getting shut down alot more. We all expect alor, but sometimes you have to settle for what your gonna get.
