On here, people who consider themselves "free thinkers" often make fun of Christians(and I would assume Jews and Muslims too) because we "believe snakes and donkeys can talk" but in reality the snake was only the Devil in disguise and the donkey was "possessed" (for the lack of a better word) by the Lord to teach Balaam a lesson.

So when people criticize Christians because we believe snakes and donkeys talk, does it really just go to show they don't know what they're talking about?

No, what I'm saying is the people who criticize Christians for thinking snakes and donkeys talk are wrong because we do not believe that.

I don't care if you criticize us for believing the snake was the devil in disguise, just as long as you know what you're talking about.

Actually, no. I have never witnessed any snake or donkey (even if possessed or the devil in disguise) talk. Have you? Hence, I don't believe that donkeys or snakes can talk. Do you?

I think I know what I am talking about when I say that.

In Jewish belief it really was a snake Christians changed it and even if it was the devil it still wouldn't have the ability to speak as it doesn't have the vocal chords or lips or shape of the human mouth and the same goes with the donkey it doesn't have the right things for speach. therefore they could never talk even if they were possessed.

Atheist.

Well, I haven't used those particular arguements, no.

But why would you jump to the conclusions that they don't know the context of the verses? A friend of mine uses the Balaams Donkey arguement quite often and he has studied it in depth. A talking donkey is a talking donkey, if Satan or Walt Disney is doing the magic.

I see, so you don't really believe that snakes and donkeys can talk (rational), but instead the snake is the devil in disguise (irrational).

Your question shows something--I'll leave it to you to figure it out.

personally, i think you're crazy to think the snake was the devil. there's no devil, and there's no mention of it in the OT, except in Job, and that devil is very different from the christian idea of satan. it's blatant reverse engineering to try to fit the devil into that story.
so how about you believe what you want, and leave the free thinkers alone?

A snake being the devil in disguise is just as weird!

All it seems to show is that some people believe in such things and some people don't.

You say "in reality" but that's the point, really-- some people don't believe the devil or God or talking animals are reality at all.

Not at all.

Obviously, some christians believe that these stories are fables, meant to illustrate a point. However, there are some that do believe that they are literal occurances, and as such, deserve to have such stupidity mocked...publicly.

So what you're saying is that we don't know what we're talking about because you're absolutely certain that these talked? And...you were there to witness this event to know it's totally true?

So why aren't this god and devil duo still making animals talk... I mean come on, why isn't the president getting messages from god through his dogs.

Wait a second, so your argument is that it's OK to believe that animals are talking as long as they are possessed by supernatural beings that can't be proven to exist?

Wow, my freethinking ways have really taken a serious blow.
