Several comments assumed the offenders were mexican. There is a huge population of Russian and Chinese immigrants in the Northwest who enter illegally. Should they be treated differently than the Mexicans?

Why if your family is starving can't you just rob a bank? is it illegal?
the thing that most immigrants bring up is that this country was built by immigrants which is true, but they forget or don't know or don't want to know that the immigrants that built this nation had to make one important stop.
Ellis Island, here they were "documented' and some had their names changed because the immigration officer couldn't pronounce theirs, and these "documented immigrants moved on and fought in WWI, and WWII, and they only raised one flag during those times the American Flag , not the Polish one or Italian one or Russian or Mexican ...The American flag, what should be done with them well it depends if they can prove that they have been here for at least 5 yrs and have worked and no arrests, give them a one yr work visa and keep your eyes on them , as far as children , isn't that what they do already sneak into the USA and have their kids so the kids can be citizens? the immigration issue is very complex ed I would like to know from immigration officials what's the difference between "illegal aliens" from South and Central America and the rest of the world? like the Pakistanis and Indians that are moving in or the Nigerians ,

The illegals have the right to go back to where they came from. They ARE NOT welcome here. I'm tired of the bleeding heart whining about how they "just wanted a better life". There are a lot of LEGAL CITIZENS who want a better life! Why do illegals come in, act like retards who can't speak the language until the cops are cuffing them for causing a multiple fatality accident while carrying no insurance and having no license (all while somehow collecting government assistance)? It's because politcians are as sneaky and worthless as ILLEGALS. Just deport all of them, and make the politicians who love them so much escort them back home. And then close the border. I don't believe in work visas for illegals because they don't believe in following the law in the first place....why reward them? And no, their children should not be granted citizenship. Two illegals do not make a legal.

Mostly, the illegals came for money. They wish to earn the American money to make themselves affluent and prideful when they return. Many of them do not have intentions to stay and make something out of it. So no, for those individuals, I would say no rights for them. They are totally taking advantage of what this country has to offer and stealing it. However, if those who wish to come here and make a living here but were extremely constricted by their various reasons within their situations, then some kind of leverage should appear. There are too many talented people out there that are illegal. However, they have to worry about their lives everyday about getting to places because there's always a possibility that they may get caught. They can't go to schools, they can't get jobs. They can only work for the lowest of low. I say if they are talented, give them a chance. Give them a student or worker visa and let them work their way up the ladder. We should work together in this endeavor of making this society better, not to work against it and constrict it. The children born here with illegal parents should only be granted permanent residency. They should not experience full privileges of those born of the law abiding people.

No rights! None! The Native Americans need to rise back up and push everyone out like they should have long ago. This is indeed long over due. I agree, the illegals are all criminals in the worst way. They didn't just invade, they killed and murdered as a standard policy. These consequences everyone talks about are long over due. Even if we had children here, as european settlers we don't get to pretend like any such child is legal. I don't care what oppression we fled.

You people are so self important, single minded, and ungrateful. Have some manners. Don't be such sore winners. It's a good thing the Native Americans weren't better armed or had such sick entitlement issues. They would have just evicted our selfish butts. They still have every right to but still wouldn't if they could.....because they have self respect and know that they aren't entitled to the earth. Strange. Stop coming from a place of fear. Stop being in "survival" and "scarcity" in your life. Move on from that and be responsible for whatever you have or don't have. Poor minded people wince when the price of gas changes by .50 cents. Who cares? People living in abundance live their entire lives completely unaffected by any of this because there is always enough.

Illegals should be treated humanely but deported immediately upon contact with ICE. Now they get hearings in front of immigration judges, which can take up to 2 years to resolve and they right before they get ordered deported, they disappear. Thats whats wrong with the system. If you have no legal right to be here, why do you need a judge to tell you that?

I do not believe they have any rights untill the return to mexico and re-enter legally. Work visas will only compound the problem. It gives more incentive to enter illegally. As for the citizenship of the children, I believe that is soooo wrong. The 14th ammendment (which gives citizen status to those born in the states) was for something else entirely. It was created to combat the southern establishment in post civil war era. It gave citizenship to those born of slaves to have the same rights as white people. Citizenship given to anchor babies is a gross misrepresentation of the 14 ammendment!

As a immigrant from El Salvador, i can tell you that Americans probably will never understand what make people break the law which is entering illegally to the United States. The poverty in this country is one that this American generation will never know. We are criticized for entering illegally but do you even know what it takes to get a work visa. High education, enough money in the bank and a job waiting for you. Now, if you have a high education you would have money, but if you have money that must means that you have a great job. If you have a great job why would you want to leave your family behind to come here and work in a hotel, or restaurant, etc. Do you know of any illegal doctors or lawyers, even nurses working in a restaurant. I have not. If you kick all 11 millions or so illegal immigrants that are here in the United States who would perform their job? What would happen to wages. You would probably would have to pay more for someone to make you a hamburger because Americans will not work for minimum wage, and if wages go up so does the cost of living. Here is the Department of State web page and info on visas if you want to check it out

If you want my opinion on rights i would say that we deserve the same rights as everyone else, and if you would have to deport illegal immigrants deport the ones that are on welfare, stamps, medicaid or any other kind of goverment help because if we come here is to earn money not to leave off the goverment. and Yes, most of us pay taxes.

They have the right to go home no matter where they come from or why they are here illegally. No work visas for illegals and no citizenship for their children.

ILLEGAL immigrants should not share our basic rights. It's not fair to the U.S. citizens. I heard of too many stories of illegal aliens. i.e. And illegal immigrant driving a stolen car, getting pulled over and then released. Taking jobs away from Americans who want to work and feed their families but can't b/c someone from another country who's here wrongly has taken that job for a lower pay scale. I find it hard to believe that that's fair. Why should we be so fair and generous to them when they're hurting our nations economic structure? Don't you care about your country? Or do you like seeing it go to ruins? (These questions are for the people who don't care about illegal immigration). One more thing. Their children should not be granted citizenship whether they're born here or not. If they're parents are illegal, then the children are illegal. They need to go back and come back in the right way.

"What rights do you think (if any) illegal aliens should receive, and what do you think would be fair punishment for breaking the law and entering illegally?"

I think they shouldn't be given the same rights as us simply because what they did was illegal and unfair. Why should we give rights to those who don't wish to follow our rules, including our immigration laws

"Do you believe in work visas for illegals?"

No, and because why should we allow them work here in America if they broke our rules.

"Should their children be granted citizenship?"

No
