Some applications go online (in background) to check for updates etc. behind the scenes and I have no control to stop them. Can any software/tool do this ?

I have trend micro internet security there is a tool on there that has a stop internet traffic it disconnects the user from the web. i dont think that would help though

Install ZoneAlarm Firewall. Any program has to be approved to access the internet.

i know the anti virus software trend micro prompts you before a program can gain access to the internet for the first time. and if you later deside to restrict access you can manually restrict it. only 19.99 at most any retail store. hope i helped
