Yeah I was wondering the same, and considering that they don't believe in any religion : what the hell are they doing in the religion and spirituality section of Y/A?! I don't care what everybody else believes but it annoys to have to go through all those 'God doesn't exist' type of answers when reading through the questions here. I mean if I weren't interested in religion I just wouldn't be at this particular section of Y/A ...they are wasting our and their own time.

There are more atheists and non-religious freethinkers and Humanists than you think, statistics are not accurate because many who are atheist feel no need to answer that question on censuses, so the blank responses are not counted. I am atheist and did not respond to that question on the last census. In light of recent national events, I will make sure to check "atheist" next time. There are many others who probably did the same.
We are banding together now through outreach programs, you will know of our presence in the next election and census, our numbers are growing.

Well there's more than 2%, I'm sure. Then there's another percentage of unknown size because of their reluctance to admit they are atheists. So your question is, in effect, do all atheists come in to Y/A? I doubt it.

You have your numbers wrong and you ought to try to be a tad more accurate in the future. But your point is made -- there are fewer atheists nationwide than there are theists and plenty of us are active here on Y/A.

Trustworthy statistics are available here: http://www.secular.org/

I assume that answers your entire question since it appears to be nothing more than a transparent opportunity to say "mines bigger than yours."

*sighs* There's more than you think. And more Atheists than are accounted for. Most people would be insane to admit they're Atheist in the US. You people are way too religious for your own good.

You mean like the 85% who claim to be Christians but only less than half ever attend religious services on a regular basis?

Dirk, c'mon. Keep the hyperbole under control.
That would be like....5 or 6 million people.
